2017 Aston Martin AM37 Powerboat Revealed
At the recently concluded Monaco Yacht Show 2016, Aston Martin unveiled a new powerboat dubbed the AM37, born out of a collaboration between the British luxury car maker and Dutch based Quintessence Yachts. The AM37 is the first nautical creation by the two parties which ultimately marked Aston Martin’s entry into the world of power boating.
The Aston Martin AM37 was conceptualized two years ago, and between now and then lkey figures from Aston Martin have enabled the design to come true. The same Aston Martin design team that worked on cars like the One-77, Vulcan and DB11 was involved with the AM37 project by providing automotive experience which was then enshrined on the final boat design by naval architect Mulder Design.
With an overall length of 37-feet, the AM37 comes in two versions – the entry AM37 model that is powered a choice of two 370 hp Mercury diesel or two 430 hp Mercury petrol engines; and the AM37S with two 520 hp Mercury petrol engines. The entry model has a top speed of 45 knots while the AM37S is capable of doing up to 50 knots.
Whether cruising during the day or night, the AM37 is built to provide luxury and comfort at all times. During the night, the table can be transformed into a large comfortable bed for the owners. Outback there is a seating capacity for eight people, additional amenities include a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and lavatory. The cabin comes with air-conditioning and mood lighting as well.
A wraparound windscreen highlights the exterior design of the AM37 coupled with sliding deck technology that allows the cockpit to be fully covered from the touch of a button. There is also an electro-hydraulic carbon fibre bimini top that stays hidden under the engine hatch when not in use, a swim platform can be extended from the aft deck to facilitate easy access to the waters.
Aston Martin design work is heavily reflected at the helm of the AM37 with the carbon fiber dashboard using similar stylings to that of Aston Martin supercars.
CEO for Quintessence Yachts, Mariella Mengozzi said: “It’s been an exciting journey and we have relished partnering with Aston Martin on such a special project that blends craftsmanship with futuristic technology – the perfect mix for this unique powerboat. We took on the challenge to create a true revolution on the water and an extraordinary powerboat, and I’m delighted to present the AM37, a new way of experiencing life at sea.”
